Here’s the sad truth: Every gadget running on a battery is useless unless it’s charged. Nothing bothers us more than the low battery icon on our smartphones (besides the low WiFi signal and poor cell reception, of course.) And why not? A smartphone is an integral part of our daily life these days. Professional-grade photography, reading, web-browsing, social media, gaming, video calling – a smartphone is pretty much everything one needs in life – in addition to air, food, clothes, and money, I mean.
I am not a social media buff but since I turned to the world of constant travel, I have to make sure my gadgets – most importantly my camera and cell phone – are charged.
Like other travelers, I carry extra batteries for my DSLR. But what about my phone? To keep my half-decade old iPhone 4s breathing, I had to buy a Mi power bank. After using it for about four months, here’s my Mi 10000mAh power bank review.
The sleek, single-piece aluminum casing created by high precision CNC digital cutting gives Mi power bank a fresh, minimal look and feel. It has been designed with a high level of attention to details.
The outer surface of Mi power bank is water and corrosion resistant. An accidental spill of some water on the surface will not damage the internals. It’s worth noting that the device itself is not water resistant. Don’t try to soak it in water to test, and make sure to cover it when it’s raining.
Sized as small as a visiting card and weighing about 200 grams, this power bank from Xiaomi is pleasant to look at and hold. Being a fan of Apple’s products and their design, I can’t help but think that if Apple made a power bank, it would look and feel like this Mi power bank. (Apple makes smart battery case, though.)
Although this Mi power bank looks gorgeous, it’s body is prone to scratches. Just a slight encounter with a sharp or edgy surface can leave your power bank scratched. To protect its body, you can use a silicone protector case specifically designed for this Mi 10000mAh power bank.
There is nothing but the information like its capacity, model number and manufacturing date at the bottom. On the top side, there is an input and an output port. This is where you will connect your cables. Also present here is a button which lets you check how much capacity there’s left. It also acts as a reset button when it’s required to reset the device. On the same side, there are four small LED indicators. These LEDs will blink while either the power bank is being charged or it is charging another device.
A gorgeous power bank is not worthy if it doesn’t provide with a performance that matches its look and feel. I was reluctant to buy a Mi power bank at first. I wasn’t sure if a nice looking device from a Chinese company could perform as expected or not. After having a look at some options, I finally decided to put my money on Xiaomi.
This 10,000 mAh power bank from Xiaomi proved me wrong. After charging it for the first time, I put Mi power bank to test. It took around 8 hours to fully charge it on a 5V/1A plug. If you have a 5V/2A plug, it will charge in about 4-5 hours.
With up to 93% conversion rate and minimum 6250mAh actual output capacity, this Mi power bank is highly efficient. On a full charge, this Mi power bank charges my iPhone 4s about 5 times. Of course, it’s an old device. So I also tested with newer phones. An iPhone 6 can be charged about 4 times on an average.
It goes without saying that the bigger your phone’s battery, the lesser times it will be fully charged by a power bank.
To save itself from overcharging, this Mi power bank features overcharge protection. It also protects a device by monitoring the output. If the current exceeds the maximum limit, it shuts off to prevent damage.
Overall, the performance of Xiaomi’s 10000mAh power bank is impressive and reliable. I carry it along on all my trips and it hasn’t let me down so far.
Mi 10000mAh Power Bank Review: Summing Up
With attractive looks, sleek design, reliable performance, and acceptable price, this Mi power bank has everything you need. At its price, Mi 10000mAh power bank performs really well. It not only looks gorgeous thanks to its minimal design but it also provides efficient performance.
For a frequent traveler, a decent power bank is a must-have accessory these days. And not only travelers, every user with excessive smartphone usage will love this Mi power bank for its performance and price.
You might want to save it from scratches and be careful while holding it as its body is slippery. Another thing to note about this Mi product is that it doesn’t ship with an adapter or charging cable. You will have to use an adapter and USB cable from another device to charge your power bank.
