Gosaikunda
In August 2021, I embarked on a trek to the sacred Gosaikunda lake in the Hindu month of Shravan. I was hoping to observe and photograph the shaman festival that takes place on the full moon night. Whether the shaman gathering would take place admist the ongoing pandemic was a question I did not have an answer for – until the very day when it indeed took place.
One year later, the project became subject of my first solo exhibition titled GOSAIKUNDA. Select photographs from this project now are available as limited-edition fine art prints.

The Shaman in Gosaikunda
After losing all hopes to come across shamans in Gosaikunda, I encountered this female shaman by the sacred lake. I followed her as she climbed to Trishul Dhara with another woman and this picture was taken along the way. -
Shaman by the Gosaikunda Lake
As I noticed a shaman walking towards me when I was on my way to Trishul Dhara, I knew I had to somehow ask for permission for a picture. I lift my camera up, nod my head, and the shaman poses for a quick picture by the sacred Gosaikunda lake. 12 seconds, 4 clicks, and this is the result. -
Pilgrims of Gosaikunda
It was early morning and I was in Lauribina during the final stretch of Nepal’s Gosaikunda trek. A sheet of soft clouds had taken over and I was observing the beauty around me when I came across pilgrims riding on ponies to reach the sacred lake. -
Fog Approaching Gosaikunda
During my stay, the sacred Gosaikunda lake was barely visible due to fog and clouds taking over the lake. So I couldn’t believe when I saw the lake – partially visible and soon to be covered in fog again – I did not think much. A picture had to be made and this is the result. -
Into the Woods
It was August 2021 when I embarked on a trek to Nepal’s sacred Gosaikunda lake amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Although I was coming out of the pandemic-induced isolation, there were moments throughout the trek when I felt isolated and melancholic. This picture of fog-covered forest is a representation of my state of mind during the trek.
